We are Liz and David, and with our two children Sam and Rose, we began farming in 2020, almost by accident.
We left London looking for a new life, closer to nature, expecting to end up in a suburb of Manchester, with jobs not unlike our previous ones in professional services. We thought it might be nice to have a little bit of land, perhaps a field or a tiny woodland to call our own. While we were looking for this new life, COVID happened. It showed us we didn’t need to go into town every week.
About Us
We started going on daily walks with our small children around the fields surrounding our temporary home in the village of New Longton, Lancashire. Gradually, we learnt what we could eat from the verges and hedgerows and where we should stand to reliably spot a tawny owl. We observed the different stages of lettuce farming and the people doing the work.
Our thinking changed. When Cragg Farm became available in summer 2020, we went for it.
